Welcome to the Stargate Fan Wiki at GlowingPuddle.com

A wiki is a piece of software that allows lots of people to edit the content of an online database of information. (Wikipedia is one of the best known wikis online today.)

This wiki seeks to organize information about the many stargate fans out in cyberspace in one, easily searchable location. Think of it as a giant yellow pages of stargate fans.

If you are a stargate fan and have a home-page, a fanfiction author page, a LiveJournal, blog, or gallery, this is the place to list that information! Tell us who you are, where you hang out online, and what your favorite stargate websites are.

PLEASE NOTE: Security Changes!

You MUST create an account with a valid email address to edit the GlowingPuddle Wiki! If you already created an account without an email address, you MUST enter and confirm your email address before you will be allowed to edit pages again!

In order to eliminate SPAM messages from our Wiki, I've changed some of the procedures for editing pages.
PLEASE READ THIS INFORMATION IF YOU WANT TO ADD OR EDIT PAGES IN THE WIKI!

  • If you would like to edit and create pages in the GlowingPuddle wiki, you must first create an account with a valid email address. When you register, an email is sent to your address with a confirmation link. By clicking on this link, you will be added as a confirmed member, and will be allowed to edit pages on the wiki.
  • If you already have created an account without entering an email address, you need to go to the "my preferences" tab and then to the "user profile" tab. Enter your email address in the "email" box, and then click the "save" button. When you do this, an email will be sent to your address with a confirmation link. By clicking on this link, you will be added as a confirmed member, and will be allowed to edit pages on the wiki.
  • If you are a member who did register with a valid email address, but are still having trouble editing pages, go to the "my preferences" tab and then to the "user profile" tab. Re-enter your email address in the "email" box, and then click the "save" button. When you do this, an email should be sent to your address with a confirmation link. By clicking on this link, you will be added as a confirmed member, and will be allowed to edit pages on the wiki.

Getting started

How do I create a page in this wiki?

Idiot-proof, step-by-step method:

1. Type the name of the stargate fan or fan website that you wish to edit or read about in the search box.

2. If there is an entry already in the database, click on it. From there, you can edit it by clicking on the "edit" tab at the top of the page.

3. If no entry exists yet, click on the red "create this page" link.

4. Edit away! Use the buttons at the top of the page to format the entry's appearance.

Using Wikilinks

If you (or anyone else) creates a link to an article that doesn't exist yet, the link will be coloured red.

Clicking a red link, will take you to the edit page for the new article. Simply type your text, click save and the new page will be created.

Once the page has been created, the link will change from red to blue (purple for pages you've visited) indicating that the article now exists.

From the search page

If you search for a page that doesn't exist (using the search box and 'go' button on the left of the page) then you will be provided with a link (in RED at the top of the page) to create the new page. (Note that this technique doesn't work if you use the 'search' button).

Using the URL

You can use the wiki's URL for creating a new page.

Paste the following link into your browser's address bar: http://www.glowingpuddle.com/wiki/index.php?title=ARTICLE

If you replace ARTICLE with the name of the page you wish to create, you will be taken to a blank page which indicates that no article of that name exists yet. Clicking the "edit" page tab at the top of the page will take you to the edit page for that article, where you can create the new page by typing your text, and clicking submit.

How can I edit an entry?

Open the entry and click on the EDIT tab, located on the top of the entry. This will take you to a standard wiki edit page. NOTE: Wiki markup is not identical to html. If you are unfamiliar with wiki markup, use the buttons at the top of the page to format your entry. (An easy way to see wiki markup in action is to go to an existing wiki page and use it as a template.)

How can I add pictures to an entry?

First, you will need to upload them from your local machine to the wiki. Click on the "Upload File" link, located near the bottom of the left-hand sidebar. NOTE: Only files with the following extensions may be uploaded to the wiki: 'png', 'gif', 'jpg', 'jpeg', 'doc', 'xls', and 'pdf'. Maximum file size is 1MB.

Once you have uploaded your image, you can then add it to entries. In the entry edit window, use the "embedded image" button (has a little photograph on it), and replace "example.jpg" with the name of your file. For other ways of describing pictures, including thumbnails and captions, see the mediawiki handbook page. http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Images#Uploaded_files

What should I put in my entry?

Whatever seems important. Feel free to include links to any fictions, art, or videos you've created. Throw in links to your favorite online stargate hang-outs. Tell us where you got the idea for your online name. If you're creating an entry for another fan page, tell us a little about what we might expect to find there -- and don't forget to post links to the site.
